Inaugural Event

By July 20, 2018Events

In January of this year, 9 of us officially formed 100 Men Who Give a Damn. After some planning we held a founding members meeting at The Beer Dispensary of Apex where we gained new memberships and prepared to embark on our initial 100 Men meeting. We are pleased to fill you in on what you missed and what you can expect at our next gathering on August 23rd.

At 6:30 pm, May 3rd over 70 influential individuals from the Raleigh-Durham and surrounding areas came together to rally for a cause. Solas Raleigh graciously provided their premises to allow us a platform to aid a charitable group in need. We kicked off the night with a brief networking session and meet and greet with the charities for a brief glimpse into the amazing work they do every day within our community. Jeff Walters followed this breakout session with a short but informative description of how to utilize the 100 Men app. Sean Bates followed with a clear and concise message pertaining to our expectations and requirements of a vetted charity which contain the following:

  • Must be 501(c)3
  • 75% of funds must be used in the Triangle area
  • Must have been in business for at least a year
  • Must be based in the Triangle area

You can find the full list of requirements on our Charities FAQ page. These requirements help ensure all our efforts make the largest impact in the communities in which we reside. Following this we spent five minutes listening to representatives of each organization present on what they do and how they would benefit from our donation. The three nominees for this event were:

After much consideration from all of our members we came to the final decision after vote via ballot that Caring Community Foundation, a 501(c)3 Charity who provides financial support to cancer patients in need here in the Triangle, would be the recipient of this meetings donation. Maria I. Hernandez, the Executive Director of the organization, showed joy and gratitude as she was handed our first $10,000.00 check. This experience was both humbling and rewarding for all active members as the donations impact will help many families through their difficult times.

None of this would have been possible without our sponsors, a special thanks goes out to:

Were excited and anxious for our next event which will be held again at Solas Raleigh at 6:30 pm on August 23rd, hope to see returning members and new faces ready to help make our community stronger one donation at a time.
