About Harry H. Montgomery

Life Experiences’ golf tournament honors Harry H. Montgomery, an early champion of the organization and board chair.

An avid golfer and sports enthusiast, Montgomery was a college football official, the quarterback and captain of the 1935 UNC 9-1 football team, and an Honorable Mention All-American. He won the Patterson Medal, awarded to the outstanding senior athlete in all sports in 1936. LE’s golf tournament has been held in his memory since 1988.

In addition to his dedication to Life Experiences, Montgomery advanced the work of many civic organizations in his lifetime: the Downtown Raleigh Rotary Club (former President and Paul Harris Fellow); Board of Directors of the Boy Scouts; UNC General Alumni Association (President) and service on the Board of Visitors; United Fund (Chair), Lions Club (President), Salvation Army (Chair), Chamber of Commerce (Chair), and Community Chest Fund (President).
